Conserving the qualities of the original design and incorporating new improvements, such as the adjustable handlebar or the suspension spring, we have created a tool which is accessible, replicable and even more functional than its original.</div><div>The guiding principle of our design was to keep the technical qualities of the original tool-bars, which through many years of use have shown to be perfectly adapted to precision weeding and ridging work in organic vegetable production, whilst adding new adaptations which improve the working conditions both for the horse and the human. As well as ergonomic considerations, we designed the Néo-Bucher so that new tools (such as finger weeders) could be fitted onto the existing tool bar.</div><div>This work is licensed by L'Atelier Paysan under Licence - CC-BY-NC-SA</div>s work is licensed by L'Atelier Paysan under Licence - CC-BY-NC-SA</div>)
  • Cultiridger  + (<div>The <b>Cultiridger</b&<div>The <b>Cultiridger</b>’s main components are a set of spring tines and a pair of discs. The tool was designed to create and maintain ridges, but it can also be used on permanent beds for secondary cultivation or for cultivation work following crop harvest.</div> <div>The tines cannot incorporate crop residue into the ground. It needs to be shredded with a rotovator before using the Cultridger. Once the crop residue has been incorporated into the soil, the well aerated and free draining conditions in the ridges help speed up its breakdown. The tool works up to a depth of 30 cms from the level of the wheelings. The depth can easily be adjusted by changing the height of the depth wheels. At the Jardins du Temple (a market garden in the Isère region), the Cultiridger is set to work at a maximum depth of 10 cms. Deep tillage of permanent beds is not necessary. As well as preserving soil structure, shallow tillage reduces wear of the blades, saves energy and, by allowing a faster tractor driving speed during cultivation work, also saves time. Furthermore, the structure of the soil is not artificially disturbed and thus reduces the likelihood of soil erosion, capping and compaction. With appropriate blades, the Cultiridger can also be adjusted for weeding, breaking down stubble and loosening up compacted soil. Thanks to the adjustable frame, the Cultiridger can cultivate the soil very lightly without destroying the ridges. As the blades are detachable, larger goosefoot hoe blades can be mounted onto the Cultiridger to eliminate more effectively young green manures or extensive weed seed emergence.</div> <div>This work is licensed by L'Atelier Paysan under Licence - CC-BY-NC-SA</div>t;div>This work is licensed by L'Atelier Paysan under Licence - CC-BY-NC-SA</div>)
  • Bed ridger  + (<div>The bed ridger can be used inst<div>The bed ridger can be used instead of a plough to incorporate crop residue and green manures into the soil. The ridger can also be used to reshape a bed if it has been flattened following cultivation work.</div> <div>This model of ridger with three discs was chosen because it produces raised beds at least 40 cms high without working the soil too deeply. The spacing of the discs allow the whole surface of a bed to be lightly cultivated. Rather than burying organic matter deep into the soil by ploughing, the organic matter is buried into the ridge, where it can quickly decompose, although dry conditions can hinder the breakdown of organic material. However, there are solutions! We have adapted the traditional asparagus ridger for cultivation work on permanent beds, incorporating into our design double coil goosefoot hoes for weeding paths, depth wheels to adjust the height of the implement, a central ridger to rework pre-existing beds and a quick hitch triangle system so that the tool can be easily mounted to a tractor.</div> <div>This work is licensed by L'Atelier Paysan under Licence - CC-BY-NC-SA</div>s work is licensed by L'Atelier Paysan under Licence - CC-BY-NC-SA</div>)
  • Plastic rolling machine  + (<div>Whether for mulching or soil so<div>Whether for mulching or soil solarisation, this plastic rolling machine is a quick and easy way of laying down plastic sheeting onto beds. The technical drawings for this implement can be downloaded from our website.</div><div>Atelier Paysan wanted to make an implement which was both simple and affordable. To achieve this, the number of parts for the tool were reduced to a minimum. It was through a series of designs, prototypes and tests that the final design emerged.</div><div>A simple three bar frame was chosen, onto which were fitted depth wheels, discs to open the furrows, wheels to stretch out the plastic and furrow closers. To avoid the furrow closers breaking if they knocked against something, it was decided to fix them on double coiled blades.</div><div>This work is licensed by L'Atelier Paysan under Licence - CC-BY-NC-SA</div>t;div>This work is licensed by L'Atelier Paysan under Licence - CC-BY-NC-SA</div>)

Its working speed is 2 to 3 kms per hour. It’s a very useful tool for weed control on beds that have not yet been sown or transplanted.
